Dubrovnik galleon the best model of 20th National Competition of ship modelers

20th National Competition of Ship Modelers was held on Sunday, 6th of September in CTC Rijeka. There were 11 ship models competing in three categories – HR-A models on sails and oars, HR-B models with motor engine and HR-E ship models in a bottle. This year, only models of Croatian ships were eligible for competition because it was according to National rules. Traditionally, the day after competition, models were displayed in the Croatian ranking exhibit of model ships “Rijeka 2015”.

The best model of this year’s competition was Dubrovnik galleon by Mladen Mitić with 92,33 pts. The judges Luciano Keber (mail judge), Miroslav Fabijanić and Krešimir Šurina have ranked 5 models with enough points for silver accolade. Schooner Vila Velebita by Branimir Šoić won 88,67 pts. Kristijan Popeškić won 2 silver medals – one for Lovranski guc with 84,33 pts and one for Pasara which got 82,67 pts. Bark Ban Mažuranić by Edi Šimetić won 82 pts, and Željko Fredotović’s Gajeta won 81,67 pts. Bronze medals went to Mili Šantić for Štilac (75 pts) and Mario Bičić for Trabakul (73 points).

On this year’s exhibit, the organizers had ensured a special place to the two ship modelers which gave enormous impact on Croatian ship modeling but are recently deceased – Bogoljub Dokmanović and Josip Rumora.

The exhibit is also a competition because few more medals are yet to be presented – the people’s award. The visitors, who can see the exhibit until September 17th, in CTC Rijeka’s Educational-exhibit space (Školjić 6) will decide who will win. The exhibit is open to public every day from 9 AM until 8 PM, and on weekends from 10 am to 3 pm. Besides voting for the best ship, the public can try their luck on tombola.

National competitions of ship modelers are organized since 1995 in Rijeka, and have since then become a traditional event in our city. This year, it is organized by Croatian Ship Modelers Association, Centre of Technical Culture Rijeka and Croatian Association of Technical Culture, and financially supported by City of Rijeka and Primorje-Gorski kotar County. The event is sponsored by the President of the Republic of Croatia Mrs. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
